Guess Who is Coming to Dinner

Hello church family,

You all have heard about the event we are doing on Sunday, February 22. As a reminder, you tell us that you are available for dinner at 5:00. We will then assign you to go to someone’s house for dinner. The host won’t know who is coming and you won’t know who else will be there (we hope you will like everyone else there).

It’s as simple as that. You need to eat dinner anyway so might as well do it while building relationships with people from your church family. We hope this interests you.

For those with young children, I can certainly understand the challenges and fears of going to someone’s house to eat. All of the hosts have their insurance companies on speed dial and are ready and waiting for any kind of disaster your child might bring. In all seriousness, the hosts would love for you to come and I am sure will make whatever accommodations they can to make sure it goes as smooth as possible.

We do need to know by this Sunday if you are wanting to participate. You can sign up on the sheet we have at church or you can also click here and tell us that you are coming.

Worship service schedule change

Dear Family,

Due to the winter storm warning, we are making some adjustments to our worship service schedule this weekend. We will meet for worship on Saturday, 1/24 at 10 AM, rather than Sunday. Sunday School will be cancelled this week. We will livestream our service through our website as usual for those who are unable to join us. It will also be recorded and posted to our website if you want to join in on Sunday.

Please be cautious in deciding whether to participate via livestream or in person on Saturday. Road conditions may be hazardous even on Saturday morning.

The Lord bless you and keep you,

Pastor Colin

Service on Sunday

Hello church,

I am sure many of you are aware of the likely snow and ice that will start on Friday night or Saturday morning. We are watching the weather and will send out a post if we decide to cancel service. As always, please use your best judgment and the stream is always an option if you do not feel comfortable driving.

Also, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you get ready for the storm (I would be happy to make a grocery run) or if you need any help because of damage done by the storm.

Stock up on ice melt and stay tuned.

After Church Lunch

Hello all,

We are having a lunch after church this Sunday, January 18. We are asking for everyone whose last name begins with A-M to bring a soup and N-Z to bring a dessert. Also, plan on bringing drinks for your family. The church will provide deli sandwiches and salad.

As many of you know, we can’t have too many crockpots plugged in the old kitchen. If you are bringing your soup in a crockpot, we will help you find somewhere to plug it in.

We always enjoy spending time with our church family and trust you do as well. As Pastor Colin explained in the sermon on core principles a couple Sundays ago, being a church family is very important to us and we should like spending time together.

We look forward to worshipping with you Sunday morning and eating lunch with you after.

Starting Sunday School

Hello all,

Happy Saturday to you. This is a reminder that Sunday School is starting back up tomorrow, January 11th. It will begin at 9:00 am. As you all know, we have classes for all ages and the nursery workers will be ready for your little ones.

The adult class is starting a series on marriage. Tomorrow we will be talking about what happens when two people become one flesh (Genesis 2:24). We will discuss many practical aspects that we hope makes your marriage more rooted in Jesus Christ.

The high school Sunday School teachers and the elders thought it would be helpful for the high school students to sit in on the marriage series. A large majority of our high school students are seniors, and some in serious relationships, so it seems like it would be valuable for them.

The 4th-8th grade class is continuing their study of the New Testament. They will start with the letters of Paul to begin the semester.

The K-3 class is similar because they too just finished the Gospels and Acts and are moving into the epistles. Most weeks they have Bible games or crafts to keep kids interested.

We are excited to see you and hope you see Sunday School as important as we do.

Christmas Party Dinner

Hello all,

We are having our FBC Christmas party this Sunday, December 15 at 5:00. There will be games, cookie decorating, Christmas singing, and more. We hope you are as excited about it as we are.

For dinner we are having lasagna and chicken Alfredo and also a salad. We are asking those whose last name begins with A-M to bring rolls/bread of any kind; N-Z please bring desserts. Also, please bring drinks for your family.

We love our all church events. We organize these and put quite a bit of thought and time into them, trying to make events that you want to come to and will enjoy. We want to give you time to spend with your church family and grow in relationships with one another. We trust you are committed to one another and to our church.

Christmas Schedule

Hello all,

We wanted to give you the schedule for the next month during our Christmas season.

  1. We will have our annual Christmas party on the evening of December 14 at 5:00. There will be a post sent out soon with specific details and what food to bring.
  2. We will have our Christmas Eve service on Thursday, December 24 at 5:00.
  3. We WILL NOT have Sunday School on December 28th nor January 4. Our Sunday School classes will start back up on January 11th.

If you were at church on Sunday, you probably received the Christmas devotional we are reading together. It is our hope that you take 5 minutes to read this with your family. You might have to adjust the wording for younger children but what it says is good for all ages. Below is an excerpt from the reading from December 2. We hope it encourages you to read it if you haven’t been doing so yet.

“Nothing in all of those centuries that had passed was able to stop the promise of God. Jesus, Son of Man, Son of God, the Lamb, the Savior was born at just the right time to provide justification, reconciliation, forgiveness, and new life to all who believe. God’s promises are not limited by human weakness or the passage of time. Don’t give way to fear; God will do what He has promised to do.”

“Prepare Him Room” Women’s Event

Family Bible Church is hosting a women’s event coming up December 2. It is the “Prepare Him Room” virtual event from Lifeway. Here’s what the evening will look like:

6:30-8:00 pm Lifeway video with worship and teaching from Kelly Minter

She teaches on two of the most prominent women in the Christmas
story – Mary and Elizabeth.

8:00 pm Leave feeling encouraged and maybe a little challenged!

Feel free to invite friends and family. It is geared for high school age and up. There is no charge for the event. Please just RSVP so we can plan for food. If it works better for you to just come to the video portion, just come then.

Affordable Christmas

Hello all,

Family Bible Church is participating with the Dream Center in the Affordable Christmas program again. As a reminder, the Dream Center asks us to buy gifts for boys and girls, between the ages of 3-17 (the older kids typically have less presents so if you feel so inclined to buy for the teen group I am sure they and their parents would be appreciative). The Dream Center asks for all presents to be unwrapped and in the $25-$50 range. They need to be dropped off at church by Sunday, December 7. Dream Center has created an Amazon wishlist to make it easy on your shopping. Click here to see that wishlist.

We will deliver the presents to the Dream Center where they will invite all parents from the Jacobsville neighborhood to come. Every present is marked at $2 and they want to emphasize that this program is not a hand-out but is a huge help to parents in need. The Dream Center has been focused on ministering to the residents of the Jacobsville area for close to 30 years and this program is a great tool to help them continue to build relationships. Click here if you want to see a map of Jacobsville.
