Father’s Day Breakfast this Sunday

Dear Family,

This Sunday, 6/18, in recognition of Father’s Day we will be serving a hearty “Man Breakfast” at 9:30 before our worship service at 10:30. After breakfast we will spend some time in prayer for The Runner’s Camp which begins the following evening. We currently have 57 campers registered and 41 volunteers (Yay God)!

So as Jesus said in John 21:12, “Come and have breakfast.”

See you Sunday,

Pastor Colin

Calendar Correction

Dear Family,

A few weeks ago we released a summer calendar which many of you picked up at church. Since that time we have made some modifications and have published a revised calendar, attached below.

A couple of items to note:

  • We have canceled the Church Family Breakfast and Runner’s Camp planning time this Sunday, June 4th at 9:30am.
  • We do still have a canoe trip scheduled for Saturday, June 10. More details on this will be released tomorrow, June 2, but we will need your reservations rather quickly thereafter so I wanted to give you a heads up.
  • We have added 2 volunteer orientations for The Runner’s Camp on Monday and Tuesday evenings, June 11 & 12, 6-8PM. It will only be necessary to attend one of these in order to serve.
  • We currently have over 20 campers registered for The Runner’s Camp, June 19-23, and are hoping for many more by the time we kick off. We need more volunteers, please take the time to register at runnerscampevansville.com.
  • We now have a Runner’s Camp Evansville Facebook page! Please like, post and share to help us spread the word. If you are not on Facebook, please encourage friends to visit runnerscampevansville.com by whatever means you can. We have received registrations from a wide variety of advertisements, but most have come from personal invitations.

That’s all for now. See you Sunday,

Pastor Colin

summer dates 2017

Please forward to friends and family!

Dear Parents,

Have you heard the words, “I’m bored” coming from your kids yet? It’s only the first week of summer—think what it will be like 4 weeks from now! If there is a good chance that by then your kids will have watched more TV or video games than is good for them, or if you would like them to get some exercise and have fun while doing it, then check out The Runner’s Camp.

The Runner’s Camp is a one week evening camp sponsored by Family Bible Church teaching the sport of track and field to kids ages 6-12. Each evening begins with a gospel-centered devotion time followed by age/gender group instruction in 8 different track and field events mixed with fun games. The camp culminates with a track and field meet in which each child competes against their own age group to showcase his or her running, jumping or throwing abilities. Ribbons are awarded to all competitors.

Evansville’s first ever Runner’s Camp meets June 19-23 at North High School’s Bundrant Stadium, 5:30-8:00 PM. You can register campers online or sign up to volunteer at runnerscampevansville.com. Please register soon so we can order t-shirts!

Runner’s Camp Evansville now accepting registrations!

Runner's Camp Evansville Logo

Dear Family,

Our new website, runnerscampevansville.com is now live and accepting registrations for campers and volunteers (both youth and adult). When you register you will receive an email confirmation (check your junk mailbox) to make sure it does not wind up in the wrong place).

We also have received most of our printed marketing materials (two sided post cards and business cards–door hangers will arrive later this week). If you wish to come by the church and pick up a supply to distribute, I will leave a box of both inside the church vestibule. I will post a plan for us to launch a distribution campaign to cover surrounding neighborhoods and businesses in a day or two. Please help us spread the word by linking social media feeds to the website above and pray that families will get excited about this event.

Yesterday I was encouraged by a former track and field athlete from Indiana University who is pleased to join our camp staff as a coach. She told me, “I am so excited that I get to use my interest in track and field for the gospel!” My thoughts exactly!

I will post again soon with a plan to distribute marketing material.

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” (Hebrews 12:1).

Spoke too soon…

Dear Friends,

Apparently in my joy that our team’s visas had been granted, I spoke too soon. The Bolivian customs and immigration dept. is coming up with additional requirements. Our team has NOT left the room yet. Obviously the powers are not letting go easily and someone does not want the team in the country. Please renew your prayers for them. They are on day three in the same clothes and day two in the same 12’x18′ room. The God thing is that the AA flight home was cancelled today. The bad thing is that they are still stuck in the room.

Ephesians 1:16-21

Pastor Colin

Our Mission Team,

Dear Family,

You may be aware that a team of people from Family Bible Church and others departed on Sunday to serve the Lord in Bolivia. After arriving at the Bolivian airport this morning they were detained for lacking the proper stamp on their visas (a new and undisclosed requirement). As I write 13 hours later, 13 team members and their luggage are still confined to a 12’x18′ room awaiting final word on whether they will be allowed to enter the country or be sent home. Our team has Bolivian partners who are working hard to obtain what is needed for entry. Everyone is okay, just very tired.

Please, please pray that our team will be approved by customs and immigration for entry in the morning. I have no idea what the Lord is doing in these circumstances. I am reminded of at least two situations in which the apostle Paul was prevented by the Lord from doing what he wanted to do to serve him (Acts 16:6-7), or detained at length while doing what the Lord clearly wanted him to do (Acts 23:11; 24:26-27). The Lord’s purposes in what he does with us while we are serving him are not always clear, especially at the time. But it is clear that we are to pray and not give up praying.

So let us pray for our team’s entry into Bolivia, for patient endurance for them, and that whatever happens they will bring honor to Christ’s name by their conduct. I will post as I hear of further developments.

Maundy Thursday and Easter Services

Dear Family,

Here is a quick rundown on Family Bible Church events to celebrate our Lord’s passion and resurrection this weekend:

Maundy Thursday service–Thursday at 6:30 P.M. I know, some of you are wishing we would make up our minds: “Is it on Monday or Thursday?” Maundy Thursday, sometimes called “Holy Thursday” has been observed by Christians from various church traditions to commemorate the events recorded in the Gospels the evening prior to Jesus’ arrest and trial. The name “Maundy” is derived from the Latin word mandatum, which means “commandment,” from Jesus’ words that he spoke that night recorded in John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another….” At our service we will share the Lord’s Supper that he instituted on this night long ago.

Easter Sunday–Our worship service will begin at 10:30 A.M. There will be an Easter egg hunt following the service. Parents please bring a bag or basket for your kids to collect their eggs.

May the Lord bless you as you remember all that he has done for us this week,

Pastor Colin

Beth Moore conference and Spring Break calendar

Dear Family,

There are some important dates approaching that I would like to make you aware of.

Beth Moore’s Living Proof Live conference is coming to Evansville July 21-22, but the “early bird” registration discount expires this Monday, 3/21. Registration is currently $59. Seating is “general admission” so you do not need to register as part of a group, though FBC will organize a group of ladies to attend together. I am not sure what the rate will increase to after this Monday but if you would like to attend, the cheapest time to get tickets is now. You can register online here.

We will adjust our Sunday School schedule over Spring Break as follows:

Mar. 19–Sunday School at 9:30
Mar. 26–No Sunday School.
Apr. 2–Sunday School at 9:30.
Apr. 9–No Sunday School but we will have an “all church” Palm Sunday devotional and continental breakfast at 9:30.
Apr. 16–No Sunday School. Easter Sunday. Stay tuned for further information regarding our egg hunt following our worship service.

We will hold our worship service at 10:30 as usual each of these weeks.

See you tomorrow!

Pastor Colin

Sunday School Kickoff this Sunday

Dear Family

This Sunday, 1/29, Family Bible Church will launch Sunday School classes for our kids and youth. We will have classes for pre-k through high school from 9:30 to 10:15 between now and Memorial Day. Our nursery will also be available during Sunday School. Our worship service will begin at 10:30.

Parents and other adults, please consider serving in our kids or youth classes. We are not currently planning to offer adult classes yet this spring. Let’s do what we can to make our first semester of Sunday School a success for our kids.

See you Sunday morning,

Pastor Colin
