Joy and Sadness

Dear Family,

It is with profound sadness and great joy that I said goodbye to a lifelong hero yesterday. My father passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon. I am grateful that his translation from this life to the presence of Jesus was quick. One moment he was mowing the lawn and the next he was gazing into the eyes of his Savior. John “Buzz” Kerr was a self-denying Christ follower, a faithful friend, an adoring husband, a devoted father, a tireless servant, and an excellent example to my brother and me in all of these roles. I will miss him terribly. Please pray for my mom especially. This year she and dad marked 50 years of marriage and it will be extraordinarily difficult for her to adjust to life without him.

I am currently on my way to their home in Kerrville, TX to grieve and celebrate Dad’s life with my family and his wonderful church where he was dearly loved. I will miss being with all of you this Sunday as I have already taken great comfort in your prayers and condolences.

For now I cling to the promise of the One who conquered death:

JN 16:22 “So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.”
